5 Star Rated AC – What Does it Mean for You?

Save Environment

Does rating of an AC really matter?

How many of you check the star rating before selecting electronic appliances? Why should we care about star rating? The star rating is the most important factor to look for before buying any electronic device. 5-star rating is an energy star unit. It represents the energy efficiency of an appliance and consequently saves electricity bills. It is found that most of the energy consumption in a house comes from air conditioners.  If you are going to invest your money in air conditioner this summer, then look for a 5 star rated AC and select an efficient AC for your household. You can check power labels before purchasing any air conditioner, as it is mandatory for every air conditioner to have star rating labels.

How does EER and STAR rating affect our AC?

These power labels consist of EER and STAR rating. Higher EER indicates that you have a well-accomplished air conditioner.

Star ratings and EER, both are closely linked to each other. AC can be rated from 1-star to 5-star. As higher the star is, the more efficient is your AC.  Higher star AC’s are more reliable than the lower star rated AC’s. If you are thinking on long-term basis then you should go for 5 star rated AC. Such an AC unit will reduce your energy consumption. A slightly higher initial cost should not be a problem, as the savings within a few months would more than make up for it.

The bureau of energy efficiency is a team of members responsible for educating people on star labelling on AC’s.  They train many salesmen across cities.  Due to this training, salesmen are able to advise their customers adequately. On an average, most of the people use AC’s for about eight hours a day, which is approximately two fifty two days out of one year. A 5 star rated AC consumes lowest energy as compared to other AC’s. If you are paying hundred rupees for 1-star AC then for a five star it will cost sixty nine rupees. Therefore, these AC’s can also be called as cost effective AC’s. They can reduce your energy expenditure to a very minimum value.

Features of 5-star rated AC

With stylish looks and ultimate savings, the 5 star rated AC now also come with advanced features. You can go for AC's with special filter. This special filter ensures clean, healthy and refreshing air. You can direct these AC's cooling according to your needs. Thereby, saving energy and reducing bills. These AC’s will add beauty to your home. You can also go for different designs and different colours to give your room a designer’s look.

An air conditioner (AC) is an electrical appliance, which is used to keep the interiors of any room or area, cool and unaffected by outside temperature. This machine is predominantly used during the summer season, especially in hot and tropical countries, though nowadays most offices and commercial areas tend to use it throughout the year in order to keep a steady indoor temperature. Besides maintaining a pleasant temperature, the cool air of the air conditioners also regulates the humidity.

Applications of air conditioners
Air conditioners are used extensively in households, shopping centres as well as in office spaces to keep the inhabitants, employees and/or customers, comfortable. The employees of the offices can concentrate more on their work, producing better quality work output, while the clients can be more at ease in a pleasant environment. Cold and dry air is circulated throughout the room, where the air conditioner is fitted. Air conditioners with different capacities are suitable for rooms of different sizes. Multiple AC machines can also be fitted in big halls, while central air conditioners work best in large complexes.

Types of air conditioners
Air conditioners are mainly of two types- window air conditioners and split air conditioners. Nowadays, split air conditioners are widely used. These are available in various colours, shapes and sizes for various types of rooms and halls. Air conditioners are available at reasonable prices at various stores. One of the biggest concerns regarding air conditioners used to be that it involves high electricity consumption since the compressors inside the machines consume a lot of electric power. However, a 5 star rated AC system is the best solution to get the luxury of an AC without having to worry about the electricity bills. These machines consume lesser power than ordinary AC machines.

Scroll Technology

Today Scroll technology has replaced conventional piston compressor technology as the industry standard. The compressor is much quieter, reliable and energy efficient as compared to others. For the longest time people from countries with developing economies such as India were apprehensive about buying air conditioning systems for their homes and offices because of the running costs of AC units. The electricity bills would be quite a bit higher than before the system was installed. Being the heart of the AC unit, the traditional compressors were responsible for high electricity consumption. Because of the introduction of scroll technology in air conditioning systems, now manufacturers have an opportunity to continue and use such advance air conditioning technology for better energy efficiency and responsible use of refrigerants.

Leon Creux was the person who first patented the scroll compressor in the United States of America and France in the year 1905. Since at that time, high tolerances required in sealing the compression chambers were unavailable, these compressors were not used. The concept was only revisited in the 1970s, after which new modification were made to the technology and used in HVAC products. Today however, the scroll technology is considered the most modern and apt for cooling products. There are quite a few advantages of using such innovative technology in HVAC instead of the traditional compressors. Some of the benefits are in aspects like reliability, efficiency, vulnerability and size.

Compared to other compressors the compressors made using scroll technology have fewer moving parts. This translates into more reliability, less maintenance and lesser noise. There is less chance of a breakdown in the system since this compressor has no valves. The design of a scroll compressor allows it an ability to produce higher cooling in comparison to the older models. This means energy efficiency and less electricity bills for the consumer. Not only is this aspect profitable for the individual or business using such cooling solutions, but also for the environment as it generates lesser carbon footprint. The new scroll technology compressors are compact and well-balanced. While this does not make a big difference when it comes to small air conditioning units for homes and offices, it does make a huge difference for commercial units. In the olden days large commercial complexes or supermarkets would need a separate room to keep them. The new technology saves consumers space as well as money spent in accommodation of the compressors.

Most wise consumers these days, not only look at brand name, reputation of the company, design of the model, and star rating, but also pay attention to the mechanism used to make the product. As a consumer the best way to save on energy and electricity usage, is to buy an air conditioning unit that uses scroll technology in their compressors. In India, most reputable brands known for their air conditioning units use this technology in their products.

5 Star Rated AC

If you are looking to buy an air conditioning system for your home or office, look for a 5 star rated AC. Why? Well, here are some reasons to convince you to do so.

First of all, if you think about why you didn’t buy an AC unit until now, you will realize that you either didn’t need one or were too worried about the kind of hike it would bring to your electricity bill. There was a time when one would miss the cool and comfort provided by air conditioning only in the peak summer months. The average Indian would dream of owning an AC. This may be the reason, having an AC became somewhat of a status symbol. Some of the best offices in town were air conditioned and so were the homes owned by the cream crowd of the city, but today air conditioning is more of a need than anything else. Global warming, unpredictable climate change, pollution and dust have made it a more convenient option of ventilation as compared to the traditional ceiling fans or open windows.

Today even the most modest of homes in cities that are closer to the equator, have air conditioned homes and offices. If you have wondered how they can afford it, here are a few facts that may put light on the situation. Technology has developed leaps and bounds since the last time you checked. Electrical appliances are now monitored by a government body known as the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE). In fact, if you are looking to replace your old air conditioning unit, you are in for a pleasant surprise. Expect an eight per cent or more saving on your monthly electricity bill. And yes, it comes to a substantial amount over the months and years of use. If you have bought the old unit in 2010, you must be aware of the star rating. And by the way, the 8% we are discussing is over and above that, as from January 2012 energy efficiency of AC has been further enhanced to save more power.

Today all air conditioners have a star rating specified on the unit. While the star rating ranges from one to five, the 5 star rated AC units are the most energy efficient as compared to others. You may notice that 5 star rated air conditioners are a bit more expensive than its counterparts. If this is a factor in your decision making process, it may be of help to know that even though you might be spending a little more in initial cost, you will end up saving thousands of rupees in your running cost and electricity bills. You can use the mobile based application (app) launched by the BEE to calculate your AC energy consumption.

5 star rating window AC

These days there are so many different types of air conditioners available on the market that a buyer is almost weighed down by the choice. When it comes to shopping for any household machine, especially one that is going to cost a substantial amount, it is better to do a little research beforehand. With resources like the Internet at your fingertips, this is not a difficult task. You can easily compare different brands, types of air conditioners, ratings and testimonials to zero in on the exact model and type that is most suitable for your requirements. For instance, if you are working on a budget and still want a modest air conditioner for your bedroom, a 5 star rating window AC may be the ideal choice for you. Once you have made up your mind about the type and size of the air conditioner, you can move on to finding the companies that offer them and make the purchase after making a price and service comparison.

With disposable income becoming scarce, and the need for climate control a must in most cities, economical air conditioning systems are in high demand. Most middle class individuals living in cities prefer window AC for a few reasons. Not only is the AC cheaper than most others, but it is also a single machine that requires less space and is extremely easy to install. You can notice them hanging out of many windows releasing hot air outside while cooling the room. Adequate to cool one large room and with a size limitation of 2 ton capacity, the window air conditioning system is most preferred in cases wherein the consumers are staying in a rented apartment and cannot make installations or changes to the interiors of the home.

A big advantage of a window AC is that it is a lot cheaper than other types of air conditioners like the split AC. The power consumption of the window AC is more or less the same as a split AC system. This may be one of the reasons why many smart buyers nowadays pay close attention to the star ratings on the machines they consider. This rating system initiated by the BEE (Bureau of Energy Efficiency) indicates how energy efficient the product is on a scale of 1 to 5, with a 5 star rating being the most energy efficient.

When you are out buying a 5 star rating window AC, it is imperative that you buy from a reputable dealer. Look at all the features of the air conditioning system carefully and consider how you can benefit from it. You may also want to consider the warranty period of the machine before making your final decision.

AC Drive

The AC drive market is growing at almost 10% per year, and a major credit for this change is due to the development of AC drive technology. It is important to know that the technology used in AC drives is completely different from other simpler control methods. Use of these drives has many cost benefits as well and this fact makes them a sure shot winner in industries as well as home owned products. Let us take a quick look at the main benefits an adjustable speed AC drive can provide industrial users.

Normal motors take on too much current to start the motor, which damages the device over the long run. This also places a tremendous drain on the power distribution system connected to the motor. These sags in voltage can harm other sensitive equipment connected to the distribution system. On the other hand an adjustable speed AC drive starts a motor at zero frequency and voltage. This translates into better longevity of the motor and therefore the machine. Also, these drives curb voltage sags to avoid damage of any other equipment or machines connected to the same distribution system. The controlled starting current also makes a difference in the electricity bill you incur each month.

AC drives have controlled acceleration as well. They start at zero speed and slowly and steadily accelerate on the ramp. This is not the case in other AC motors that start abruptly creating a kind of shock to both, the machine as well as the load and motor. Such rapidity creates more wear and tear on the connected load and motor. Also, many older motors have only a few operating speeds, whereas an adjustable speed AC drive enables adjustable operating speeds by programmable controller or process controller. They also have an adjustable torque limit, which allows the motor to not ever exceed the designated limit. Controlled stopping is also as important as controlled acceleration to ensure minimal mechanical wear and tear. This too is ensured in AC drives.

Centrifugal fan and pump loads operated with an Adjustable Speed AC Drive reduces energy consumption, and this is a crucial aspect since energy savings has become a motto for more and more industries to curb the global warming problems. Plus, in view of the fact that AC drives save energy to a large extent, they pay back the capitalized cost in a matter of just a few years, depending on the size of the motor you have bought.

You can also eliminate the purchase of expensive mechanical drive components such as gearboxes, etc, by using an adjustable speed AC drive, given that the AC drive operates at variable speeds and can deliver low as well as high speeds required by the load.

Scroll Technology – The Future of ACs

One of the most vital components of an air conditioner is its compressor. The compressor works on turning cool air with low pressure into hot air with high pressure in order to maintain the cooling of the area it's installed in. As a consumer, if you're interested in using a compressor that saves energy, has fewer parts, is easy to install and also saves your money, you should consider using scroll technology in your air conditioner or refrigerator.

In a world that's growing hotter by the minute, the importance of a good air conditioning system is undisputed. Choosing an air conditioning system that fits your needs, however, is a harder task than it looks as most consumers are easily swayed by catchy advertisements shown on the television. Apart from looking at features such as design, size, shape and brand, one must conduct some research on the mechanism of the air conditioner or refrigerator in order to make an informed decision. Most of the functioning in an air conditioner is taken care of by the compressor, which not only makes sure that the hot and cool air are well circulated and pressurized, but also that the machine itself suffers no harm.

A compressor that uses scroll technology provides one with various advantages, such as lesser disturbances in terms of noise due to fewer vibrations and the ability to place it almost anywhere due to its compact size. Having lesser parts than any other compressor ensures that there are fewer breakdowns and that there is higher efficiency. While these compressors produce the same amount of cooling as the other standard compressors, they manage to do so while using a lesser amount of energy, thus saving not only on your electrical bills but also contributing to the idea of sustainable development and using resources in a manner that helps preserve the environment. Studies have shown that these compressors reduce the energy usage by 20-60% in a home.

Compressors using scroll technology also have better protection against liquids so in the event of a fluid leak in your air conditioning system or your refrigerator; the mechanism itself will not be harmed.

Scroll technology owes its reliability to the fact that its prototype was invented in the early 1900s, giving the technology ample time to develop and re-develop in order to suit the changing needs of its growing consumer base. The compressor itself is made up essentially of two scrolls, that is, spirals. While one remains stationary, the other rotates inwards in order to create a higher air pressure. As this form of compressors have up to 70% fewer parts than most models of compressors, it gets the job done much faster and better than heavier, bulky models.

Thus, one must make an informed decision when considering buying a new cooling system. When you're going in for an air conditioner or refrigerator and are concerned about factors such as size, efficiency, energy saving and lower price, scroll technology is easily the best option for you.
