5 star rated air conditioner

In recent years the government of India has made it mandatory for all electrical appliances to have a star rating. This rating basically determines the energy efficiency of an electronic product like a refrigerator, air conditioner, microwave oven, etc. The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) is the statutory body under the Union Ministry of Power that gives these ratings. Thus, if you are looking for any AC unit for your home or office space you can now buy a 5 star rated air conditioner instead of anything with a lower rating. There are quite a few benefits in going for a 5 star rated AC unit.

First of all, even though if you survey the market for air conditioners you are bound to come across units that are being sold for a lot cheaper, 5 star rated units have the advantage in the long run. How? Well, while other units may be cheaper to buy, they make up for the money in recurring electricity bills. They consume considerable more units of electricity as compared to ones that have higher ratings, especially 5 star units. On the other hand, 5 star AC units may be expensive, but they assure lower electrical consumption, which translates into affordable bills.

Star rated air conditioning units are more expensive as the manufacturers have to change the design parameters of the unit in order to increase its energy efficiency, which leads to an increase in the initial cost of the AC unit. This being said, very few of us realize that the initial cost of the unit contributes to just 11% of the total expense of owning an AC. It is all about the running. So, if you want the AC for mere show, it may be okay to consider a unit with very low rating, but if you do intend to use it as and when without giving much thought, the 5 star rated units may be ideal. Remember that you must keep in mind that the initial cost, maintenance cost and the running cost together determines whether the AC is right for your needs.

EER, which is the Energy Efficiency Ratio is the ratio between the cooling capacity of the unit and the power input. AC units with higher EER consume less power. These ratings are mentioned on all air conditioners these days, regardless of the manufacturing company. If you intend to use the AC several hours in a day, and are looking for something that will keep your electricity bills in check, go for a 5 star rated air conditioner. The good news is that there are plenty of good company options available on the market today. All you need to do is choose.
